After a single game last week, the NFL preseason began in earnest Thursday, with a full slate of games to kick off the 2018 season. Along with football's return came the return of the national anthem controversy to the American consciousness, with President Trump tweeting early Friday about players who "wanted to show their 'outrage' at something that most of them are unable to define. Players have knelt, raised their fists, or remained in the locker room during the anthem since the 2016 season in protest of the mistreatment of black citizens by law enforcement. Trump wrote: "Stand proudly for your national anthem or be suspended without pay!"
