The first two witnesses gave "devastating" public testimony in the House's impeachment inquiry on Wednesday, giving "evidence of bribery" and "abused power" by President Trump, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) said in a news conference Thursday. "The bribe is to grant or withhold military assistance in return for a public statement of a fake investigation into the elections," she said, referring to how Trump seemingly conditioned Ukraine aid on an investigation into the Bidens and a hacked DNC server. State Department official George Kent and longtime diplomat William Taylor testified for the House Intelligence Committee on Wednesday. Taylor told Congress his staffer had overheard Trump checking in on "investigations" in Ukraine, a second U.S. official reportedly heard the same thing. Ousted U.S. Ambassador to Ukraine Marie Yovanovitch will testify Friday.
