The Week’s guide to what’s worth watching

Warning: This Drug May Kill You
Opioid overdoses have reached epidemic levels in America, accounting for more than 33,000 deaths a year. This documentary examines the crisis through the stories of four families wrecked by the drugs, highlighting how quickly prescriptions for painkillers like Vicodin or Percocet can lead to abuse, addiction, the embrace of alternatives like heroin, and, for too many, an untimely end. Monday, May 1, at 10 p.m., HBO
Independent Lens: National Bird
Drone warfare only appears to keep U.S. military personnel out of harm’s way. In this new documentary, three veterans of remote bombing operations dare to speak out about the program’s unacknowledged costs, both to innocent civilians on the ground and to the analysts and operators carrying out the remote bombings. The pilots are required to kill, then observe the aftermath, as human remains are carried away by survivors. And the operators are prohibited from talking in detail about the strikes, even with their psychologists. Monday, May 1, at 10 p.m., PBS; check local listings
Handsome: A Netflix Mystery Movie
Mix Columbo with Larry David’s Curb Your Enthusiasm and the result might look a lot like Handsome. Jeff Garlin, a Curb Your Enthusiasm co-star, created and stars in this detective spoof, which showcases his knack for comedic writing and deadpan delivery. Garlin plays Gene Handsome, an LAPD detective fumbling his way through a homicide investigation. Natasha Lyonne and Amy Sedaris co-star. Available for streaming Friday, May 5, Netflix
Batman & Bill
Not long ago, all true Batman fans knew that comic book artist Bob Kane created the character in the late 1930s. But Kane had a close collaborator, and this documentary makes the case that the relatively unknown writer Bill Finger deserves most of the credit, and deserved most of the resulting riches, that instead went to Kane. Without Finger, Batman would have been a superhero with big black wings. With Finger, he’s a superhero with a cowl mask, a sidekick named Robin, and a nemesis called the Joker. Available for streaming Saturday, May 6, Hulu
The Last 100 Days of Diana
Twenty years after Princess Diana’s death in a Paris car crash, countless admirers still hunger for details about the circumstances that led to the tragedy. In this two-hour special, TV journalist Martin Bashir, who interviewed Diana in the 1990s shortly after she’d ended her unhappy marriage with Prince Charles, focuses on the young mother’s final summer, when she was engaged in affairs with two men and anticipating a chance to forge a new public identity. Sunday, May 7, at 9 p.m., ABC
