Charity of the week
The Creative Capital Foundation (creativecapital.org) was founded in 1999 to help artists fund their dreams and build sustainable careers. Every year, the organization awards dozens of artists up to $50,000 each in direct funding, and up to $45,000 for professional training. The foundation’s approach is four-pronged: It offers monetary scholarships, provides consultation and business-building workshops, assists awardees with networking, and promotes an artist’s work through online platforms. Artists can attend the organization’s workshops in New York City, while creatives nationwide can participate in low-cost webinars. Seminar topics include financial planning, brand building, and grant writing. Since its founding, Creative Capital has awarded $40 million to more than 600 artists and trained 12,000 creatives nationwide.
Each charity we feature has earned a four-star overall rating from Charity Navigator, which rates not-for-profit organizations on the strength of their finances, their governance practices, and the transparency of their operations. Four stars is the group’s highest rating. ■
