Parents can now spend $9 per month on a smartphone app that provides frequent updates on their children’s well-being. The app, named “Mom I Am OK,” sends push notifications to a child’s phone, asking if he or she is safe. If the child does not respond “Yes,” the app transmits location data to the parent and police. “I want to know where my daughters are at if something ever happens to them,” said developer Patrick McMullen.
A North Carolina woman has been arrested after rescuing pets during Hurricane Florence. Tammie Hedges, who runs a nonprofit animal shelter, rescued 27 cats and dogs abandoned by fleeing owners. But because Hedges gave antibiotics to some injured animals, county officials have now charged her with practicing medicine without a veterinary license.
