Tip of the week
How to wash a cashmere sweater
Soak: Fill a tub or basin with tepid water and add a few drops of liquid detergent. Submerge the sweater, swirl it around, then let soak for 10 minutes.
Rinse: Gently ball up the sweater without wringing it and set it aside. After emptying the tub and refilling it with clear water, swoosh the sweater around again. “Drain, refill, and repeat until there are no more bubbles.”
Roll: Lay the sweater on a white bath towel and fold the towel once to cover the sweater. Starting at the creased side, roll up the towel, gently squeezing out water as you go.
Dry: Set the sweater out flat on a dry towel or a mesh drying rack. It will keep its shape as it dries, “so square off the shoulders and hems, and keep the sleeves parallel to the body.”
Steam: Remove any wrinkles with a steamer or an iron on the wool or steam setting.
